The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre Simcoe Muskoka (CYACSM) provides a safe, trauma-informed environment for children and youth (ages 0–24) who have experienced/witnessed abuse, exploitation, neglect, or violence. Through collaboration with law enforcement, child protection, healthcare, mental health, and victim services agencies, the organization ensures streamlined investigations and comprehensive support for young individuals and their families. With locations in Barrie, Orillia, and a Mobile Unit serving rural areas, CYACSM is committed to providing accessible, wraparound care. Their services include advocacy, trauma-informed support, early intervention programs, youth empowerment initiatives, and community education.

Role Description
This full-time, contract hybrid position (Barrie & Orillia) provides trauma-informed support to children, youth, and their non-offending family members during investigations of abuse, violence, or exploitation. The Child & Youth Advocate serves as a single point of contact, coordinating with police, child protection, medical and mental health professionals, and other partners to ensure families are informed, supported, and able to navigate complex systems.
Key responsibilities include conducting case assessments, coordinating services, connecting families with needed resources, and helping build resilience throughout the healing process. The Advocate will also assist in facilitating our Common Ground youth group, contribute to community education efforts, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, respectful, and effective support for every client.
This is a full-time, contract position (Mon-Fri, 9-5) that pays $25 per hour. The contract currently runs until December 31st 2025, at which time renewal or discontinuation of the contract will be assessed.
Qualifications
Strong grounding in trauma-informed care with the ability to support children and youth with sensitivity and empathy.
Excellent communication, rapport-building, and active listening skills with children, youth, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Experience in youth development, social work, advocacy, or related support roles.
Solid case management abilities, including service coordination, documentation, and action planning.
Knowledge of Ontario child protection protocols, abuse investigations, and trauma-recovery supports.
Proven ability to collaborate with diverse partners, agencies, and community systems.
Degree or diploma in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, or a related field.
Prior experience supporting children or youth impacted by trauma is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural competence.
Group facilitation experience, especially supporting girls and young women in healing- or skill-building groups, is an asset.
