Overview
We're looking for a skilled
Mechanical & Power Transmission Applications Specialist
to take full ownership of complex projects - from initial concept through to successful completion. In this role, you'll collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and customers to design and deliver effective, high-value mechanical and power transmission solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead projects from concept through commissioning and aftermarket support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to develop customer-focused solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed technical proposals and presentations.
  • Provide expert consultation and technical support internally and externally.
  • Support in-house and field training sessions, including product and application presentations.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to enhance Applied's products and service offerings.
  • Participate in sales planning with the Distribution team, including setting sales targets, pricing, and margin recommendations.
  • Work with the team to strengthen capabilities, improve processes, and drive operational efficiency.
  • Join sales visits to customer sites to identify challenges, troubleshoot equipment, take precise measurements, and recommend solutions.
  • Identify and quantify DVA (Documented Value Added) opportunities within projects and present these to customers.
  • Perform quality control checks on MTO (Made-to-Order) machined components, drawings, and assemblies for accuracy.
  • Evaluate risks associated with design recommendations, project proposals, or design modifications.
  • Develop and maintain a standardized Technical Project Proposal document incorporating all relevant data, references, and Applied's value proposition.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude; P.Eng or CET designation in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • CFPHS (Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist) designation is an asset.
  • Deep understanding of Fluid Power, Bearing & Power Transmission (BPT), and Bulk Material Handling systems (e.g., chain/belt conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and accessories).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or 3D drafting software for developing design concepts, equipment retrofits, and visualization tools for proposals.
  • Skilled at collecting application data and creating accurate equipment sketches for retrofit purposes.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, hardness testers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of tolerances and fits, AGMA standards, and their application to bearings and power transmission components.
  • Ability to analyze and compare manufacturer products to determine optimal brand strategy.
  • Capable of performing key mechanical calculations (e.g., conveyor speeds, bearing loads, shaft sizing, chain pull, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, wear materials, heat treatment, welding, and machining processes related to product manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly, and lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Solid understanding of industrial markets in Western Canada.
