Who We Are
The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC, or the College) is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The College regulates over 10,000 health professionals, including chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopathic physicians, traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, and acupuncturists across British Columbia.
Formed on June 28, 2024, through the amalgamation of four provincial health profession regulators, the College was established as part of the Ministry of Health's initiative to modernize the health profession regulatory framework in B.C. Its primary role is to protect public health and safety by licensing and regulating health professionals and the settings in which they practice. This includes ensuring that every health professional within its purview is fully qualified to provide safe and ethical care.
About This Employment Opportunity
The College is seeking a strategic, research-driven professional with a passion for regulatory excellence and advancing public-interest policy to take on the role of Policy Advisor.
The Policy Advisor provides critical expertise and advisory support on policy matters central to the College's mandate. This position leads comprehensive research, analysis, and evaluation of policy issues, ensuring alignment with the College's strategic direction and regulatory responsibilities. The Policy Advisor plays a key role in supporting strategic and operational initiatives, collaborating with a diverse range of subject matter experts, including staff across all College departments, legal and financial professionals, government officials, healthcare providers, and research experts, and contributing to the development of evidence-informed policies that uphold the College's commitment to protecting the public.
It is essential for all College staff to contribute to a team approach with a public protection focus, delivering efficient services that align with and allow the College to meet its regulatory, strategic, and operational goals.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of policy issues, reviewing literature, gathering data, and assessing policy impacts.
- Develop and present policy recommendations that support the College's goals and objectives.
- Assist in implementing policies and monitoring their effectiveness.
- Provide governance support to the executive and the Board by leading the development and maintenance of a Board governance framework.
- Write clear and concise policy briefs, reports, and other documents for leadership, the Board, and committees.
- Support executive and Board documentation, briefings, and meetings.
- Collaborate with staff, legal and financial professionals, government officials, healthcare providers, research experts, and other stakeholders.
- Identify research topics that advance the College's vision and strategic objectives.
- Ensure policy compliance with relevant legislation and keep stakeholders informed of developments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public administration, political science, law, or a related field is required.
- Proven experience in policy analysis, research and policy methodology, and policy development and implementation, ideally within a public sector or non-profit setting.
- Exceptional critical analysis and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to create clear and impactful policy documents.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in policy work.
- Adaptability to changing circumstances, priorities, and deadlines.
An individual who meets either the established formal qualification or the accepted equivalency can be considered equally for this role.
Compensation and Perks
The compensation for this position ranges from $94,200 to $106,000 annually, based on a 37.5-hour work week. The starting salary will be determined by factors such as the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, the salaries of peers within the same range, market conditions, and other relevant considerations.
CCHPBC offers a competitive compensation package, including health, dental and vision benefits, employee assistance program, Municipal Pension Plan, and paid time-off package.
