Rebar Fabricators, bend, cut, bundle, and load reinforcing steel bars in accordance with customer orders.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate conduct consistent with Nucor Rebar Fabrication's vision and values.

  • This is an entry level position. Incumbent may operate any one of the following machines:

  • Operate a bender to fabricate reinforcing steel to required dimensions

  • Operate a shearing machine to cut reinforcing steel bars to specific lengths.
  • Operate an overhead crane to move, assemble, and select material to be fabricated or shipped.
  • Setting up and operating threading machines
  • Installing and adjusting tooling, such as dies, cutters, chamfering tools, cams, gears and pulleys,
  • Monitoring machine operation and adjusting feed mechanisms

  • Sharpening die cutters and performing routine maintenance

  • Unload trailers and store materials in storage bins.

  • Feeding and securing stock manually or with hoists into machine chucks
  • Assemble and load orders onto trailers for shipping.
  • Maintain the shop or designated area in a clean and safe manner.
  • Assist other employees in any of the above tasks.

Minimum Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • Must have basic math skills to be able to calculate bar measurements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Training: Most operators receive 3 months of on-the-job training

  • Skills:

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to read blueprints and job orders

  • Familiarity with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, tape measure)

  • Following site specific Safe Work Practices and Job Procedures

  • Safety awareness and use of PPE

Physical and Special Demands

  • Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions Some heavy lifting may be necessary.
  • Indoor shop, working conditions can be noisy/dusty/hot/cold, with exposure to hazardous machinery, and chemicals
  • Overtime hours may be required to meet operational demands.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • Must become familiar with and adhere to shop safety policies and procedures.
  • Must have a form of reliable transportation
