Berwick on the Lake retirement community and Marquise Hospitality are looking for a Cook who is reliable, authentic, and excited to make a difference in the lives of people. Schedule:
Shifts are Thursday to Saturday 7:00am to 2:00pm, and Sunday 5:45am to 2:15pm with the flexibility to pick up additional shifts as needed. A guaranteed total of 28 hours weekly.
Pay:
Starting wage is $ $27.10 (range based on experience) an hour.
Position Summary:
Prepares food in accordance with applicable corporate standards, guidelines and regulations with established policies and procedures. Ensures quality food service is provided at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies
- Keeping work area, clean, sanitary and uncluttered, and completing scheduled cleaning duties
- Prepare, pre-cook and/or cook food products as directed.
- Prepare setting in place of foods, garnishes, sauces, dishes, cutlery, etc and other products as required for high volume production.
- Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures.
- Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas.
- Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
- Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
- Participating actively in special occasions and theme meal days.
- Attending departmental and facility staff meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions
- Maintaining a good attendance record in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications:
- Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 kilograms).
- Physically capable of performing assigned duties within a flexible work schedule inside a 7 day a week operation
- Preference will be given to individuals who have chef training
- Cooking experience, including experience as a restaurant cook or prep cook
- Food Safety Certification required.
- Certificate from a recognized cooking school is an asset.
- Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.
- Familiar with industry's best practices.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Note: At Berwick we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. A current TB test and criminal record check are also required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults.
