As a key member of the Electrical Tech Team, this position provides hands-on support to programs within the Electrical, Safety & Systems Trades and Technologies portfolio. The role is instrumental in maintaining and repairing equipment, assisting in labs, and supporting instructors and students to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive learning environment.
This position also contributes to the fabrication and upkeep of teaching aids and instructional tools, working closely with the maintenance supervisor and other team members. While the role includes general maintenance duties, it also requires technical skill and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle and distribute materials, including stocking and replenishing inventory to support shop and lab operations.
- Maintain the security and organization of shop/lab spaces and supplies.
- Fabricate specialized items using a range of technical skills, including electrical, electronics, carpentry, and other related trades and technologies.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain a variety of specialized tools and equipment used in preparing materials and resources for shop and lab activities.
- Deliver, set up, and remove various teaching aids to support instructional needs across different programs.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated strength, stamina, and mobility to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable climbing stairs frequently throughout the day.
- Capable of lifting and handling materials weighing up to 50 lbs regularly.
- May need the to operate a forklift; certification is preferred but can be obtained upon hire.
- Basic computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is considered an asset.
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10 required
- Completion of Grade 12 preferred
- Related trades certificate is a strong asset
- A valid class 5 driver's license is an asset
- Experience in machining, electrical, and/or carpentry trades would be an asset
- Equivalencies may be considered
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration: $42, $52,653.90 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Maintenance Service Worker I).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
