POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manager, Partner Communications & Media Relations, the Coordinator supports the execution of Winnipeg EDT's travel media strategy and broader corporate communications efforts. Responsibilities include coordinating logistics and itineraries for visiting media and content creators, assisting with the preparation and distribution of story pitches, tracking media coverage and contributing to initiatives that generate positive, high-quality exposure for Winnipeg.

  • Support the Manager, Partner Communications & Media Relations, in implementing Winnipeg EDT's travel media strategy and related campaigns that promote Winnipeg as a premier destination.
  • Coordinate logistics and itineraries for visiting journalists and content creators, including familiarization (FAM) tours and media visits; assist with hosting as required.
  • Maintain and update the travel media contact database; set up media opportunities, campaigns and coverage tracking in Salesforce.
  • Support with researching, identifying and organizing qualified travel media contacts, outlets and content creators to expand outreach opportunities.
  • Support with preparing and distributing story pitches and press materials to generate earned media coverage.
  • Support with responding to travel editorial, image and information requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Track, compile and report on earned media and content creator results; share coverage and performance insights with internal teams and featured partners.
  • Support with writing, editing and proofing travel media communications and collateral, including blogs, newsletters, press releases and story idea booklets.
  • Maintain and update content for the travel media website, media hub and Travefy, ensuring descriptions of attractions, restaurants and activities remain current and accurate.
  • Manage inventory for media kits, welcome bags and promotional materials; coordinate fulfillment for media visits.
  • Provide administrative support, including processing invoices, managing expenses and maintaining organized records.
  • Serve as a back-up to the Manager, Partner Communications & Media Relations, as required.
  • Support broader corporate communications and marketing initiatives as needed.
  • Proactively promote Winnipeg at key travel media marketplaces and complete follow-ups with journalists.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations, public relations or communications.
  • Strong understanding of storytelling, branding and message alignment across audiences.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Aptitude for learning and using new digital tools and databases.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a busy, collaborative team.
  • Strong knowledge of and enthusiasm for Winnipeg.
  • Bilingualism or multilingualism is an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver's license; access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Must be willing to work in-office and some evenings/weekends.
  • Must have a valid passport as some travel is required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in public relations, communications, tourism, journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in media relations, communications or a related field. Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Office 365 products.
  • Experience with CRM and media relations tools (Salesforce, Pardot, Klear, Concur, Travefy, Meltwater, CISION) is an asset.
