Landmark is currently searching for a Controller with great leadership skills to join one of Vancouver's long standing real estate developers. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a diverse portfolio and to take your career to the next step. Successful candidates will have 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience with 5 years of leadership experience and a strong knowledge and experience base in real estate and property management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the company's system of accounts for all property management functions.
- Review, analyse and evaluate performance of properties in comparison to budget and historical data.
- Review and distribute the monthly property financial statements to property managers and corporate accounting and senior management team.
- Review and answer questions on monthly financial statements to senior management.
- Participate and contribute important financial information in the monthly managerial meetings.
- Direct and manage the preparation of timely, accurate internal and external financial statement and property management reports within the MIS (Yardi or Sitelink), by Excel, by PowerPoint or any other software as required.
- Manage and oversee internal and external accounting control functions for property management accounting and operating issues.
- Responsible and manage the annual payments of property tax and insurance for the Portfolio.
- Recommend, review and implement accounting procedures as required for all properties.
- Assist and support property managers with the carrying out of their responsibilities.
- Assist and support senior management with all property management issues in the portfolio.
- Train and direct all property management accounting staff for the property management function.
- Manage the integration of new properties into the accounting and management information system.
- Manage the preparation of annual budgets (operating and capital) with accounting staff and property managers to ensure timely delivery of annual rental notices to tenants.
- Responsible for the annual property audits and work very closely with senior property accountants and our external auditor or other auditors until completion.
- Provide accounting support for property acquisitions, dispositions and the due diligence process.
Qualifications include:
- CPA designation, a recognized graduate degree in finance or business is preferred.
- Strong analytical, technology, leadership, management and communications skills.
- 10 years of experience in accounting or finance, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior management role preferably in the real estate industry.
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, be familiar with Property Management Accounting and should have held positions of increasing responsibility in accounting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop solid and lasting business relationships and the ability to provide accurate and timely information to executive management are key.
