Are you a creative thinker who thrives on solving design challenges and building smart solutions? Kings Wood Products is looking for a CAD Designer to join our small, specialized design team that serves as a center of excellence for all locations of our parent company, Weston Forest Products.

About the Role

As part of our agile design team, you'll use SolidWorks to create custom wood packaging solutions, especially crates designed to protect high-value products during domestic and international shipping. You'll work closely with sales reps who use a consultative approach to uncover customer needs, and you'll translate those insights into manufacturable designs that balance protection, cost, and efficiency.

Your work will directly influence operations across multiple sites, making this a high-impact role for someone who enjoys both technical precision and creative problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

  • Create detailed 3D models & production blueprints using SolidWorks.
  • Develop concept visuals for customer quotes to enhance clarity & professionalism.
  • Program CNC machines using SolidWorks CAM.
  • Collaborate with sales to interpret customer requirements—such as handling method, crate entry type, weight distribution, and export compliance—into accurate designs.
  • Partner with production to ensure designs are optimized for fabrication and efficiency.

Sales-Driven Design

  • Work with sales reps to turn customer needs into practical crate designs.
  • Use customer CAD files to create blocking, cradles, dunnage, & reusable options.
  • Provide visuals & technical input during quoting.
  • Ensure designs balance protection, cost, & usability.

Innovation & Automation

  • Use Excel & VBA to automate blueprint & quote generation.
  • Build tools to improve tracking, production, & delivery workflows.
  • Leverage Microsoft 365 tools like Power Automate, SharePoint, & OneDrive.
  • Collaborate with your teammates to identify inefficiencies and design creative solutions using Microsoft 365 tools like Power Automate, SharePoint, and OneDrive.

Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • SolidWorks experience (SolidWorks CAM is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VBA knowledge is an asset).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 & cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience is a strong asset, especially in environments involving CNC machinery, wood fabrication, or packaging production.
