Companion: Afternoon/Evening Support Person for Autistic Adult

Location: Vancouver

Hours: Evenings, 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM (can be longer hours but needs to start at 5:30. Minimum shift 4 hours, maximum shift 8 hours.

Schedule: Flexible or set days per week, based on mutual availability. At least 3-4 days per week. Can be a job share position.

Compensation: [e.g. $32–$40/hour depending on experience]

About Us:

We are seeking an energetic, social, and reliable companion for a 30-year-old autistic man who is high-functioning and enjoys an active, engaged lifestyle. He loves sports, movies, outdoor adventures, and being out in the community. He's very social, enjoys participating in group settings, and thrives with gentle support and structured independence.

Role Purpose

To support him in enjoying fulfilling, independent, and socially rich experiences while offering companionship and practical guidance during outings, activities, and some home organization tasks.

This is not a clinical or caregiving role, but one focused on connection, support, and shared activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving him to outings and participating with him, including:
  • Live sports games
  • Cinema trips
  • Golf driving range
  • Rock climbing
  • Community events and activities
  • Supporting communication, planning, and decision-making during outings (e.g. booking tickets, ordering food, navigating venues)
  • Helping organize and maintain his apartment with assistance from housekeepers (light support only)
  • Offering guidance with grocery shopping, meal planning, and basic meal prep
  • Encouraging independence while supporting routines and social interaction in public spaces
  • Providing calm presence and support in moments of sensory overload or stress

Ideal Candidate

  • Active, social, and comfortable participating in group or public spaces
  • Patient, encouraging, and respectful of boundaries
  • Experience with autism or neurodivergent adults preferred, but not required
  • Confident driver with a clean record
  • Able to offer consistent commitment for at least 3–6 months
  • Bonus: interest in sports, fitness, film, or adventure activities
