WE ARE LOOKING FOR A General Maintenance- Lead
We have an exciting opportunity within our Engineering Team as a General Maintenance Lead.
At Hyatt, we care for you, while you care for our guests.
General Maintenance Lead represents the Engineering function in the absence of the Director of Engineering. Responsible for assisting in the preparation and updating of the Departmental Operations Manuals, attending regular departmental communications meetings, and ensuring that departmental briefings and meetings are effective and conducted as necessary. Manage time and attendance – systems admin and time off requests. Responsible for the weekly engineers' schedule.
What is expected of me in this role?
Customer Service:
- To ensure that all employees deliver exceptional guest service at all times.
- To ensure that employees also provide excellent service to internal customers in other departments as appropriate.
- To handle all internal customer complaints and inquiries courteously and efficiently, following through to make sure problems are resolved satisfactorily.
Financial:
- To assist the Director of Engineering in all matters related to the implementation of effective budget controls.
- To check for energy and engineering materials wastage and ensure optimum use of both in the operation.
- To maximize employee productivity through the use of multi-skilling, multi-tasking and flexible scheduling to meet the financial goals of the business as well as the expectations of the guests.
Operational:
- To assist the Director of Engineering in every aspect of the operation as requested.
- To report to the Director of Engineering any abnormal conditions with relation to life safety related equipment or situations.
- To supervise other Engineering employees.
- To perform, at least weekly, a routine inspection of all engineering operational areas and report any equipment malfunctions to the Director of Engineering.
- To control and verify all engineering logbook entries.
- To supervise personally all hazardous work and ensure that all safety procedures are strictly observed.
- To monitor the implementation of all energy conservation procedures and report any irregularities and noncompliance to the Director of Engineering.
- To check timely completion of maintenance requests paying particular attention to guest related jobs.
- To assist Materials Management in the purchase of engineering spares and consumables.
- To prepare purchase requests and follow up with Materials Management.
- To assist the Director of Engineering with the preparation of planned preventive maintenance and guest room servicing procedures.
- To provide cost and time estimates for work requests.
- To allocate work requests, scheduled maintenance and repairs to Engineering employees.
- To coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure compliance with specifications and the hotel's procedures regarding guest contact and safety.
- To coordinate the engineering and maintenance work with other hotel departments.
- To assist with the preparation and implementation of an Emergency Response Plan and the operation and maintenance of all life safety and security systems.
- To assist in monitoring and controlling closely all environmental awareness and protection programs, to ensure adherence by all departments in the Hotel, notifying the Director of Engineering of areas that need improvement in environmentally responsible practices.
Personnel:
- To prepare weekly work schedules in accordance with workload and priorities, for approval by the Director of Engineering.
- To oversee the punctuality and appearance of all Engineering employees, making sure that they wear the correct uniform and maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene, according to the hotel and department's grooming standards.
- To maximize the effectiveness of Engineering employees by developing each of their skills and abilities through the appropriate training, coaching, and/or mentoring.
- To assist in conducting annual Performance Development Discussions with Engineering employees and to support them in their professional development goals.
- To ensure that all employees have a complete understanding of and adhere to employee rules and regulations.
- To support any changes implemented as a result of the Employee Opinion Survey.
Health and Safety:
- To ensure that employees follow all hotel, company and local rules, policies and regulations relating to fire and hazard safety, and security.
- As a Lead, you must
Ø ensure that workers use prescribed protective equipment devices
Ø advise workers of potential and actual hazards
Ø take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of workers.
- Managers and supervisors act on behalf of the employer, and hence have the responsibility to meet the duties of the employer as specified in the Act.
Other duties:
- To maintain strong, professional relationship with the relevant representatives from competitor hotels and other organizations.
- To respond to changes in the Engineering function as dictated by the industry, company and hotel.
- To read the hotel's Employee Handbook and have an understanding of and adhere to the hotel's rules and regulations and in particular, the policies and procedures relating to fire, hygiene, health and safety.
- To attend training sessions and meetings as and when required.
- To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned.
