Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Work closely with Business Lead and Managers, Project Directors with a focus on earthworks, landfills, solid waste, and site remediation design
  • Coordinate all aspects of the civil design including being responsible for the design.
  • Develop or verify the technical scope of a project.
  • Complete civil designs following the budget and schedule.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and address critical issues.
  • Work closely with the engineering group to facilitate decision-making related to civil design,
  • Ensure the client's requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project.
  • Ensure quality controls processes are being followed.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Represent GHD at Client meetings when required.
  •  Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the analysis of information, the drafting of engineering standards and specifications, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Deliver small- or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.
  • Analyze information and specify the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.
  • Deliver required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract service providers while working within an established contract management plan.
  • Define and deliver products and services that meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches available within established systems.
  •  Work within established knowledge management systems to deliver preset outcomes for an area of responsibility.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Carry out inspections to evaluate the quality of engineering works and/or the integrity of existing installations or structures, and specify the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  •  Identify shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, and use established change management programs to address them.
  •  Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Bachelor's (B.Sc.) degree in civil engineering and P. Eng in Ontario
  • Minimum of 10 years of extensive technical design experience
  • Proven experience in civil design delivery for larger, multi-discipline projects with a focus on earthworks, site remediation, solid waste, and renewable energy considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a Design-Build environment is considered an asset.
  • Detailed understanding of local Agency (or equivalent) Codes and Standards is considered essential.
  • Experience working in an integrated 3D environment.
  • Team building and mentoring skills.
