POSITION MANDATE
Provides technical project support services including planning, project scheduling, cost control and procurement. Oversees assigned projects' efficiency, mentors' junior staff, provides instructions, and supervises projects from a technical aspect. Assists in ensuring that the Department functions with leading technologies.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Technical
- Supports the technical aspects of projects by investigating and solving complex technical problems.
- Provides technical consultation and training services to customers.
- Provides technical direction to various crews in support of project installation activities.
- Reviews processes and determines the optimum process for each client application.
- Researches, learns and understands core business activities, tests and related equipment.
- Keeps customers informed on new technologies as well as technological and industry best practice opportunities that may contribute to their operations.
Oversight
- Assists the Department Supervisor/Manager with oversight including daily direction and productivity of staff, meeting project timelines, budget, and customer relations.
- Reports employee technical progress, concerns and training requirements to the Supervisor/Manager.
- Oversees and reinforces all aspects of project management and job-related performance.
- Reinforces best practices for the coordination, scheduling, completion and financial monitoring of projects, and for the issuing and tracking of purchased materials required for projects.
- Assists with the development and implementation of improved safety standards.
- May be required to assume roles and responsibilities of department supervisor in his / her absence for short periods of time.
Departmental Support/Financial
- Communicates with outside clients, suppliers and co-workers including reports, quotes, emails, etc.
- Sells, promotes and completes core services both internally and externally.
- Promotes on the job safety on all occasions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The position requires the completion of an Engineering Technology Program (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years' experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Suggestions for technical solutions and/or project management improvements support the achievement of project outcomes.
- Compliance with relevant policies, procedures, standards and practices, legislation and codes meet expectations.
JOB SCOPE
The incumbent supports individuals and crews on the technical aspects of projects, work assignments or in day-to-day operational activities, and provides project support to the department staff. Possesses solid technical knowledge and applied skills. Demonstrates leadership by developing the technical abilities of others. The emphasis of the work is on overseeing others with respect to the technical complexities of assigned work and supporting others with the range of requests and queries that arise throughout the completion of project work.
EFFORT
Concentration is required to support the technical aspects of multiple projects with competing timelines and shifting priorities. Deals with emerging and unpredictable technical matters in a timely manner. Builds and maintains effective working and customer relationships. Judgment calls and discretionary decision making are required in the resolution of technical challenges. Addresses more complex technical issues referred by others and can initiate related changes in the day-to-day procedures within an assigned project. Reviews own and others' technical work as required.
Coordinates technical and other activities within assigned crews, assigning work to meet project objectives. Monitors technical aspects of work accordingly, providing feedback and guidance as required. Refers on-going performance concerns to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
