This role is an excellent opportunity for pre-vet or university students looking for hands-on experience in a progressive small animal hospital.
Position Title: Exam Room Assistant/Veterinary Assistant
Location: 678 Sheppard Avenue East, North York, Ontario
*** Key Responsibilities: ***
· Animal Restraint: Developing skills for restraint of patients for diagnostic procedures (i.e. ultrasonography, radiology), sample collection, anesthesia, medical and surgical procedures. Develop skills to restrain fractious and anxious patients in a safe and humane manner.
· Animal Husbandry: Optimizing compassion for the pets and patient comfort in a safe and hygienic environment during treatment and hospitalization. Employee understands that ensuring patient hygiene includes cleaning kennels and that they will come in to contact with urine, feces, and other bodily fluids.
· Client Communication and Relationships: Must treat clients and patients in a friendly and compassionate demeanor while respecting and maintaining professional boundaries.
· Facility Management: Ensure treatment rooms, kennels, surgical and dental suites, exam rooms, and any other areas of the hospital are kept clean and tidy. Ensure supplies are restocked, laundry is maintained, and supply orders are unpacked.
· Computer Software knowledge: Develop proficiency in EzyVet Software, GMAIL, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Petdesk and Microsoft Applications.
· Medical Records Management: Employee must understand that record keeping is vital to proper patient care and ensures all notations on walks, feeds, weight, urinations, BM, and appetite are being entered into the medical record.
· Instrument Care: Understand aseptic techniques including cleaning, folding, and wrapping of all surgical materials, and instruments.
· Act as a liaison between Veterinarian and Veterinary Technicians to ensure continuity of patient care.
· Answer phones as required.
· Attendance of all scheduled staff meetings and employee evaluations.

· Willingness to learn and develop an understanding of basic veterinary topics including vaccinations, basic laboratory tests, common diseases (including common veterinary emergencies), parasite prevention and treatment as well as common pet behaviour.
· Must demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality.
Job Requirements:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Affinity for animals.
· Outstanding organizational skills
· Be physically strong, dextrous, ability to stand for extended periods of time, and have the ability to lift over 20 kgs.
· Must be 18 years or older (for health and occupational safety).
