Your Role 

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) specializing in Oxygen and BiPAP at Maple Respiratory Group, you'll be a vital member of our inter-professional team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in providing respiratory care and managing patients requiring oxygen therapy and BiPAP ventilation. This role is essential in delivering high-quality patient care and improving outcomes for individuals with respiratory conditions. You will support the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiopulmonary disorders, educate patients on respiratory health, and ensure the optimal performance of diagnostic equipment. Your role requires effective collaboration with healthcare professionals and a dedication to continuous professional development.  

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Administer and monitor various forms of oxygen therapy, adjusting flow rates and devices as needed to meet patient requirements
  • Perform diagnostic tests, such as arterial blood gas analysis and cardiopulmonary functions tests
  • Operate and monitor respiratory equipment to administer treatments such as oxygen, oxygen-air mixtures, humidified air or specialty medical gases
  • Prepare and instruct patients on test procedures and proper use of oxygen equipment and safety protocols
  • Initiate and manage BiPAP therapy for patients with sleep apnea or respiratory failure, ensuring appropriate settings and patient comfort
  • Monitor patients for effectiveness and adjust therapy as necessary based on clinical judgment and patient response
  • Maintain patient records and ensure data is properly documented in the healthcare system
  • Stay updated with the latest testing techniques and technologies
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment, ensuring all tests meet accreditation program standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and foster open communication with the Medical Director and healthcare team
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, management techniques, and disease prevention, enhancing patient care and treatment outcomes
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care, adhering to safety protocols and physicians' orders
  • Participate in the review and development of educational materials and policies to enhance patient care and laboratory standards

Qualifications 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy and successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination
  • Current or eligible for membership with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA) Respiratory Therapists and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT)
  • Current HCP-CPR certification from the Heart & Stroke Foundation
  • Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) is preferred
  • Knowledge of respiratory diseases and treatments
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification
  • Understanding of medical terminology and respiratory physiology
  • Technical proficiency with medical diagnostic equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Ability to coach patients effectively to obtain the best results
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position (physical stamina to stand for extended periods and assist patients)
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to define problems, gather data, organize facts, and make valid conclusions.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and procedures
  • Excellent time management and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) when interacting with professionals or patients
