Our facilities team plays a key role in keeping the property in excellent condition and ensuring residents feel at home.
We're looking for a Facilities Technician who takes pride in their work, enjoys problem-solving, and thrives in a hands-on role. If you're the type of person who can fix a leaky faucet, patch drywall, reset a toilet, and paint a suite, all in the same day, you're exactly who we want on our team.
Position Summary
The Facilities Technician is a full-time, on-site role at The Laurels. You'll handle day-to-day maintenance and repairs, support resident requests, and complete preventative maintenance to keep the property running smoothly. This position reports directly to the Property Manager and Director of Property Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Maintenance & Repairs
- Complete work orders related to general maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and drywall repairs.
- Perform unit turns, including touch-ups, cleaning, and minor repairs, to ensure suites are move-in ready.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues such as faucet replacements, toilet resets, and appliance servicing.
- Carry out small-scale improvement projects and repairs independently.
Resident Service
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests, ensuring repairs are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Maintain a professional, courteous relationship with residents and staff.
Property & Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct regular property inspections to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Ensure common areas, amenities, and building systems are safe, clean, and fully functional.
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks on schedule (e.g., filter changes, equipment checks).
- Report major repair needs or capital project requirements to the Director of Property Operations.
Team & Vendor Support
- Collaborate with the Property/ Community Manager to support leasing turnover and resident satisfaction.
- Assist with coordination and oversight of external contractors when needed.
- Ensure safe work practices are followed, and any hazards are addressed promptly.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, or as a handy person/technician.
- Skilled in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general repairs.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Organized, reliable, and detail oriented.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for work order tracking.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
Assets
- Experience in residential property management or multi-unit housing.
- Knowledge of Yardi or other property management software.
- Certifications in building systems, trades, or health & safety.
