Toronto, Ontario, Canada Munich Re Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Position Overview
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining robust data integration and transformation solutions that support financial and regulatory reporting, including IFRS17. You will work with complex datasets across multiple platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, Databricks), ensuring high data quality, performance, and reliability. This role combines strong technical expertise with collaboration across business and IT teams to deliver accurate, compliant, and scalable reporting solutions in a regulated environment.

Your Role:

  • Develop and maintain ETL processes using SSIS to ingest, transform, and load data from sources like Oracle Financials, P34, Convert, AXIS, and VAL into Azure SQL Server databases (Landing, Staging, Final, and Delivery zones).
  • Design and optimize SQL stored procedures, functions, views, and tables for data aggregation, tagging (e.g., GOCs, Transaction Types), and validation in a multi-zone data warehouse architecture.
  • Implement and troubleshoot scheduled ETL workflows using Control-M, ensuring seamless data flow to the Munich IO Hub and handling on-demand processes via Appian UI.
  • Collaborate on data modeling, SCD Type 2 changes, hash-based change detection, and aggregation for IFRS17 financial reporting compliance.
  • Build and optimize pipelines on Databricks for large-scale financial and actuarial data processing, integrating with Azure SQL Server and Oracle systems to support IFRS17 reporting.
  • Support incident resolution, monitoring (via Dynatrace), and deployment across Dev, QA, UAT, and Prod environments, including version control with TFS and integration testing.
  • Enhance reporting interfaces using Power BI and Appian for business users, including aggregation approvals and status monitoring.
  • Manage security and access via Active Directory groups, linked servers, and IAM provisioning.

Your Profile:

  • University degree preferably in Computer engineering / IT or similar qualification
  • 3+ of experience of delivering results in a fast paced, global and regulated business environment, preferably in application release management, change management or project management
  • Background in financial/actuarial data processing (e.g., IFRS17 standards) and regulatory compliance, with proven hands-on IFRS17 reporting implementation experience.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, SQL Server (including stored procedures, functions, and performance tuning) and Azure SQL Server for data warehousing.
  • Strong experience with SSIS for ETL development, including package execution, error handling, and integration with linked servers.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks (PySpark/SQL) for advanced data transformations and large-scale processing.
  • Strong understanding of Oracle databases, including querying, performance optimization, and integration with ETL workflows.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse concepts (e.g., SCD Type 2, hashing for change detection, RI checks, and aggregation by GOC).
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools like Control-M and monitoring tools like Dynatrace for job execution and alerts.
  • Experience with Appian for UI development (e.g., job triggering, approvals) and Power BI for reporting and dashboards.
  • Understanding of version control (TFS/Azure DevOps) and deployment pipelines; basic C# for SSIS scripting tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, IAM for user provisioning, and ServiceNow for incident management.
