Unit Summary
The Child and Youth Mental Health Outpatient Team is an integral part of the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at McMaster Children's Hospital. This team provides psychiatric consultation, individual and family mental health assessment and treatment, and group treatment to those experiencing complex mental health difficulties (many with comorbidities) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University and the Offord Centre for Child Studies. With approximately 9,000 annual visits and 1,300 referrals this multidisciplinary team works with partners including pediatricians, family physicians, education, child welfare and other community agencies in the provision of comprehensive and evidence based mental health services to children and youth residing in Hamilton.
Position Summary
The Clinical Leader will be accountable to the Program Manager. The Clinical Leader will establish a collaborative relationship with the Medical Director and Clinical Directors. The Clinical Leader is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the ambulatory programs. The role provides leadership to the teams, and through the effective use of resources coordinates and facilitates daily clinical activities. The Clinical Leader acts as the communication liaison between services, as well as other health care professionals and programs at MCH. The functions of the Clinical Leader include being a role model and coach to assist staff with professional development and achievement of program goals. Responsible for understanding and promoting the strategic direction of the services and MCH at large. The Clinical Leader follows through on issues that impact on the quality of patient care provided. Contributes to the monitoring and development of the operating plan. Provides leadership with the services for quality and risk management activities.
1. Baccalaureate degree
2. Minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience in child & youth mental health services
3. Demonstrates understanding of mental health issues and challenges for children, youth & families with mental health needs and the interventions, and treatments applicable
4. Demonstrates skills required from management position
5. Demonstrated excellence in communication, critical thinking and team building skills
6. Experience in monitoring budgets and managing budgets
7. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education / lifelong learning
8. Demonstrates the ability to manage conflict and conflict resolution
9. Demonstrates innovation in addressing the needs of children and youth
10. Ability to work in an environment that requires a high degree of organizational skills and flexibility
11. Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision and values of McMaster Children's Hospital
12. Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process
13. Registration as a Regulated Health Professional preferred
14. Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
