Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees the accounting functions of the organization, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of financial information. The CFO ensures financial recording accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAO) and established internal controls and procedures. The CFO's leadership contributes to strengthening of the Executive Team at Yellowhead Community Services.

The Society's business is multi-faceted, encompassing the operations of a multi-service community agency, a housing portfolio, and a range of community economic development initiatives. This is a pivotal leadership position in the organization, requiring a broad base of strategic and executive management skills and abilities to ensure the overall financial health of the Society.

The main office is located in the beautiful community of Clearwater, a small yet vibrant municipality in the North Thompson Valley. Known as the "Gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park," Clearwater is renowned for its stunning waterfalls, pristine lakes, and lush forests. In addition to its natural beauty, Clearwater is also poised for growth in the resource sector, offering promising opportunities for development.

Key Accountabilities

Operational Leadership & Workplace Culture

· Produces financial statements, analyzes financial information and provides advice on financial matters;

· Coordinates annual budget development for program budgets, facility and administration budgets for presentation to the Executive team and to the Board for their adoption;

· HR management (payroll, leave and benefits administration);

· Recruitment, coordination and supervision of administration staff;

· Coordination of building management and equipment purchases and/or leases;

· Coordination of IT and website needs;

· Coordination of administrative and client file management;

· Performs a variety of financial, office management and executive secretarial duties as required;

· Ensures insurance requirements for buildings, general liability for programs not covered by contracts and Directors and Officers liability as well as seek quotes to maintain competitive pricing;

· Creates and maintains strong and positive relationships with staff, contractors, volunteers, and the Board of Directors and cultivates equity, diversity, and inclusivity within the organization;

· Engages with the Executive Team in high-­level human resources issues relating to significant issues concerning employees, volunteers, or contractors;

· Creates a safe and motivational work environment, through proactive conflict management and mentoring, to enhance employee satisfaction and productivity;

· Acts as Human Resource officer; enrolling and maintaining accurate records and payments for all staff according to HR policies and benefit plan requirements. Health Benefits Administrator and Leave Management Administrator.

Strategic Leadership

· Provides a strategic level of thinking and implementation of business development initiatives to support the financial viability of the organization;

· Communicates with the Board of Directors in a timely manner to present the work accomplished or any challenges experienced in implementing fiduciary requirements of the agency.

· Ensures accurate recording of public sector funding.

· Monitors and analyzes cash flow, expenditures, journal and ledger entries, bank statements, account activity and other accounting and financial records. Maintains bank accounts and secures investments as required;

· Evaluates, develops and recommends office procedures and practices to senior management. Ensures that approved financial policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

· Professional accounting designation such as CGA, CMA or CPA, or related experience, plus completion of a program up to one year in related training, business or office administration;

· Three (3) years related experience including one-year supervisory experience;

· Experience working with an Executive Team

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong financial skills to manage the financial performance of the agency;
  • Strong people management skills and experience with all aspects of Human Resource management, including the recruitment, orientation, and recognition of employees and a volunteer workforce;
  • Strong relationship building skills and experience working collaboratively and effectively with a management team;
  • Ability to function independently and frequently under pressure while managing multiple concurrent duties and deadlines, including effectively managing emergency situations;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with an Executive Team and Board of Directors;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient with standard office software and technology (QuickBooks, Government sites; CRA and Microsoft Office suite web-based data management programs).

Compensation

This is a full-time, salaried position based in Clearwater, BC. Travel within the service area across the Thompson-Cariboo-Gold Rush regions is required. Evening and weekend work are occasionally required.

The Chief Financial Officer position offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a salary range of $84,000 to $99,500, extended health benefits, and access to wellness programs through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP). Compensation is based on the 2023 CSSEA wage grids and is reviewed biennially to ensure alignment with updated CSSEA compensation standards.
