The Coordinator, Building Maintenance & Projects, is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, upkeep, and strategic improvement of campus infrastructure. This role oversees building and grounds maintenance, directs the building operations team, and manages renovation and capital improvement projects. The position requires coordinating with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to maintain facilities, implement safety programs, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, all while supporting a safe and functional environment for building occupants.

This is a contract position for 4 to 6 weeks. It will be starting ASAP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day building and grounds operations for all owned and leased facilities.
  • Monitor and respond to maintenance issues 24/7 to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Oversee security systems and safeguard campus buildings and property.
  • Coordinate maintenance, replacement, and procurement of equipment and assets, including fleet vehicles.
  • Implement safety programs for building operations staff, including inspections, hazard assessments, and training.
  • Assign resources to support campus events and operational needs.
  • Ensure projects and maintenance activities are completed within approved budgets.
  • Act as the primary contact for capital improvement, renovations, and facility upgrades.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide operational input for facility maintenance, renovations, and system upgrades.
  • Contribute to capital budget planning for building maintenance, deferred maintenance, renovations, and leasehold improvements.
  • Plan and execute departmental capital projects, ensuring scope and budget compliance.
  • Lead, motivate, and direct a diverse team of building operations staff.
  • Provide guidance to contractors and project teams on scheduling, logistics, and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Trade certification or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in building operations, maintenance, renovation, and capital projects.
  • Experience with post-secondary facilities, building systems, and physical infrastructure strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Strong construction project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and scope management.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and current building maintenance technology.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and maintenance management systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Self-starter and strong team player with a proven work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive or controversial issues with discretion.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to motivate and direct teams toward successful outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication skills for engaging with a variety of stakeholders.
