The Opportunity

Big White Utilities is seeking motivated Utility Operators (Levels I–III) to join our team. Depending on experience and certification, operators will assist in or lead the operation, maintenance, and repair of the resort's water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater treatment and collection systems, and propane gas utility. Operators work under the direction of the Vice President of Utility Operations, contributing to the reliable delivery of essential services while maintaining compliance with all EOCP and Provincial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on Operator Level (I–III):


• Perform daily inspections, monitoring, sampling, and process adjustments for water and wastewater systems.


• Operate and maintain treatment processes, pumps, UV reactors, filters, and chlorination systems.


• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on valves, hydrants, mains, and collection infrastructure.


• Operate SCADA and computerized monitoring systems.


• Maintain detailed operational logs and reporting in compliance with regulations.


• Respond to callouts and emergencies as part of the standby rotation.


• Mentor junior operators (Levels II–III).


• Assist with or lead repairs, safety inspections, and project work.


• Participate in seasonal system preparation (hydrant winterization, flushing, basin inspection, etc.).

Qualifications

Operator I


• EOCP Level I (Water Treatment/Distribution and/or Wastewater Treatment/Collection)


• 1–2 years related experience; mechanical aptitude and field experience an asset


• $33.69/hour

Operator II


• EOCP Level II (Water Treatment/Distribution and/or Wastewater Treatment/Collection)


• Minimum 3 years' experience in utility operations


• Strong understanding of process control and SCADA systems


• $37.10/hour

Operator III


• EOCP Level III in Water Treatment/Distribution and/or Wastewater Treatment/Collection


• 5+ years of experience operating Class II treatment facilities


• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities


• $41.15/hour

All applicants must hold a valid BC Driver's License, be physically fit, and able to work in all mountain weather and terrain conditions. Ability to operate snowmobiles, heavy equipment and trucks (training provided)
