We are a full service settlement agency with multiple departments that offer a wide range of programs and services. Using a client-centered approach, we offer targeted case management. We do needs assessments, support with official documents and paperwork, information and orientation sessions, crisis counselling, housing assistance, translation, language classes, and help navigating public services and agencies such as healthcare, the CRA, Service Ontario, and many others. In addition we offer programs that help newcomers become socially and economically connected, whether through sports, recreation, cultural activities, or job search and networking support. CCI also offers these services in a youth specific context. Finally, CCI Ottawa operates 4 Transitional Housing Sites. Each site provides shelter, food, and wrap around services to support clients as they move into permanent accommodations.

JOB SUMMARY 

The Overnight Support Worker is responsible for providing direct support, guidance, and advocacy to clients while ensuring a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment. This role involves crisis response, communication with internal and external partners, and maintaining consistent documentation and front desk operations in accordance with organizational policies.

This position reports to: Overflow Site Manager/Supervisor 

Employment status: Full-time & Part Time, until April 30, 2026 

Hours- 7pm to 7am shifts- 3 to 4 days a week 

Hourly rate: $30.99

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Site Manager/Supervisor, the Overnight Support Worker will:

  • Offer ongoing support, encouragement, and advocacy to clients, helping them navigate available services and resources.
  • Provide support to the vulnerable population of individuals in transition.
  • Maintain an environment that is conducive to a 24/7 person centered care and support program
  • Support harm reduction and recovery-based strategies in partnership with clients
  • Contribute to the development of fair, compassionate, and consistent approaches to client service.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents.
  • De-escalate conflicts and provide support during crises.
  • Conduct shelter intakes with kindness and empathy, building trust and rapport with callers and residents. Gather information about client's needs and assess their immediate safety requirements.
  • Assist with all shelter duties such as room checks, meal preparation, and support during mealtimes to ensure nutritional needs are met.
  • Maintain security of the shelter, monitor entrances and security cameras, conduct regular checks, and ensure all safety protocols are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS

(Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working in shelters, social services, crisis intervention, or related community support settings preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use issues is an asset.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills; ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, or restorative practices.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to stay awake, alert, and attentive throughout overnight shifts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
