Asbestos Abatement Worker

JOB DUTIES
The Asbestos Worker will perform the following duties:
- Remove, handle, and dispose of asbestos-containing materials in accordance with federal, provincial, and territorial regulations
- Set up and dismantle containment areas, including barriers, negative air pressure systems, and decontamination facilities
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at asbestos abatement sites
- Operate specialized equipment such as HEPA vacuums, negative air machines, and air monitoring equipment
- Prepare surfaces for asbestos abatement work by wetting materials and applying appropriate sealants
- Package and label asbestos waste materials for safe transport and disposal according to regulations
- Clean and decontaminate work areas, equipment, and personal protective equipment
- Assist in conducting air quality testing and monitoring during and after abatement activities
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from work sites
- Maintain clean and safe work sites by following health and safety protocols and regulations
- Perform general construction labour tasks as required
- Complete required documentation and reports related to asbestos abatement work
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Completion of secondary school is usually required
- May be required depending on provincial/territorial regulations
Experience:
- Some experience as a general construction labourer may be required
- Experience in asbestos abatement or hazardous material handling is an asset
Certifications and Training (MANDATORY):
- Asbestos Worker Certification - Valid certification as required by provincial/territorial regulations
- Current WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) certification
- Confined Space Entry training (if applicable)
- Fall Protection certification
- First Aid and CPR certification (asset)
- Valid traffic control certificate (asset)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs regularly
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators for extended periods
- Good physical stamina and manual dexterity
Other Requirements:
- Reliable and punctual
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong attention to safety protocols and regulations
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work environment involves potential exposure to hazardous materials
- Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- May require work at heights, in confined spaces, or in demolition sites
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, including full-face respirators, protective suits, gloves, and boots
- Work schedule may include overtime, weekends, and shift work as required
- Travel to various job sites may be required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 45 per week
