Community Support Worker

Role Description
The Community Support Worker (CSW) plays a key role in supporting individuals who are unhoused, street-entrenched, or transitioning to stable housing within AWAC's housing continuum. Through a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and culturally safe approach, the CSW provides hands-on support, advocacy, and guidance to participants to enhance their quality of life and promote wellness, independence, and belonging. This position bridges the gap between outreach and housing stability, ensuring participants are supported holistically from crisis response to long-term stabilization.
Qualifications
• Diploma or certificate in Human Services, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum two (2) years' experience providing direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and housing-first practices.
• Knowledge of community resources including BC Housing, MSDPR, and health and justice
systems.
• Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and reconciliation principles.
• Ability to manage crises with empathy, calmness, and sound judgment.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in case management, advocacy, and outreach settings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and client database systems.
• Valid Level 1 First Aid and CPR certification.
• Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle required.
• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
