Combined Metal Industries (CMI for short) sources and processes recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals across North America and ensure they do not end up in a landfill or go to waste. Our recycling stream ensures that all the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that enter our yards will create something new again
Job Summary
CMI is looking for a new employee to join our Maintenance Team In this role you will perform direct troubleshooting maintenance work for repair, adjustment, adaptation, re-design, preventative maintenance and installation of all plant and yard equipment, machinery and infrastructure in order to assist in a safe and productive work environment for all employees. This position is performed outside in our recycling yards as well as indoors in our maintenance shop.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster a positive and motivating work environment by engaging and supporting employees.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to ensure employees receive effective training and development opportunities.
- Lead a crew of 2 or more employees, leveraging multi-skilled expertise.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all plant and yard equipment in alignment with daily production requirements.
- Diagnose and repair breakdowns of machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Fabricate parts and equipment based on instructions or blueprints.
- Install, commission, and test new machinery to ensure proper functionality.
- Execute welding repairs on equipment as needed.
- Assign work orders to employees or external contractors, ensuring clarity and prioritization.
- Partner with the Maintenance Coordinator to procure supplies, parts, services, and equipment efficiently.
- Monitor completed repairs for adherence to quality standards and productivity benchmarks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Respond to service calls as required, providing swift and effective solutions.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical or Engineering Technology, or a Technician/Technologist diploma. Alternatively, hold a valid Millwright, Mechanic, or Electrician ticket/certification.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience managing skilled trades such as welders, millwrights, electricians, and truck mechanics.
- At least 5 years of hands-on maintenance mechanic experience.
- Proficiency in welding techniques and applications.
- Strong mechanical maintenance background with demonstrated aptitude.
- Experience with heavy equipment movers and balers is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong independent judgment, reasoning, and decision-making abilities.
- Working knowledge of CMMS software (e.g., M+) is an asset.
- Valid G driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Must own and maintain personal tools.
