Personal Support Worker (PSW) – Surgical & Spinal Cord Home Care (Petawawa, Ontario)

About the Role

We are looking for a Personal Support Worker (PSW) with experience assisting clients recovering from surgery, living with spinal cord injuries, or paraplegia, to join our dedicated home care team. The ideal candidate is gentle, patient, and committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care that supports independence and comfort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal care, including hygiene, dressing, and mobility support.
  • Support clients with transfers, use of mobility aids, and positioning to prevent pressure injuries.
  • Provide assistance with wound care under RN supervision.
  • Observe and report changes in clients' condition to nursing staff.
  • Assist with light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship.
  • Encourage independence and emotional well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, family members, and other care providers.

Qualifications

  • Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a recognized Ontario college or accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years of experience in surgical recovery or spinal cord injury care preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with paraplegic or spinal injury clients in home or long-term care settings.
  • Knowledge of wound care practices and skin integrity maintenance.
  • Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to client care.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
