Position Summary:

The Intermediate Database Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions to support BI and analytics. Expertise in SQL, ETL, SSIS, SSRS, SSDT, Power BI, DAX, and related tools is required. Key duties include analyzing data needs, building data models, optimizing queries, and delivering insights through reports and visualizations. The role emphasizes data accuracy, integrity, and performance, working closely with stakeholders to meet business requirements.

Position Functions:

  • Design and implement complex SQL queries to support data retrieval, analysis, and reporting needs.
  • Optimize database queries, workflows, and reports by analyzing execution plans, tuning queries, and improving overall system performance.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain data solutions, including ETL workflows, data models, reports, and dashboards using tools such as SQL, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI, and DAX.
  • Support data warehousing initiatives by designing and implementing data integration processes that ensure data consistency, accuracy, and integrity across multiple sources.
  • Collaborate with business units to gather requirements and translate them into efficient data models, queries, and visualizations.
  • Continuously monitor and improve data development processes, including documentation, version control, and system enhancements.
  • Work closely with IT teams to support application delivery, troubleshoot issues, and optimize data-related performance.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of data marts and data governance standards.
  • Stay informed on emerging data technologies and trends, recommending innovative solutions to improve data systems.
  • Contribute to project planning, effort estimation, and resource management for data development initiatives.
  • Ensure data security, compliance, and governance standards are integrated into all data solutions.
  • Respond promptly to data support requests, collaborating with Help Desk and IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Promote best practices in data development, including reducing technical debt and ensuring scalable, maintainable solutions.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL data development, BI and analytics with a strong focus on optimization, standardization, and rewriting existing processes to improve performance.
  • 5+ Proven expertise in SQL, ETL processes, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI, and DAX.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration best practices.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure) is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results on time.
