Telecom Technician

Responsibilities

  • Equipment installation / build / maintenance / upgrade / decommission of telecommunications network infrastructure and site
  • Year-round, hands-on work on outdoor cell sites / data centres along with other indoor facilities
  • Working with structured cabling/ installation drops and POE
  • Customers include – Bell, Rogers, Telus, Freedom, Nokia
  • Experienced with general Telecom construction including installation of equipment, steel mounts, cabinets, fibre optic / data / power cable systems, cable tray, conduit, microwave, testing, batteries, grounding systems
  • Telecom [wireless / wireline experience] testing / commissioning / integration, working knowledge of safety standards and regulations, basic knowledge of electrical safety.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Canadian or international experience
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Good English skills both written and oral, ability to follow direction and work well within a team
  • Able to follow technical documents, blueprints and engineered drawings
  • Valid drivers license and clean abstract required
  • Manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude for proficient use of power tools and equipment
  • Comfortable working at heights -climbing at 15-20ft on ladders

Success in the Role

  • Possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks.
  • Ability to travel as needed; must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Understand and adhere to NEC, ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and local building codes, standards.
  • Ability to work alone, with strong multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Work Environment

  • Regular hours are 7:00-3:00PM,8:00 am - 4:00 pm or 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, however some flexibility is required (nights may be required at times).
  • Work outside, at heights or in confined spaces
  • Heavy lifting, manual work and proficient use of installation tool
