Hotel Size: 64 Rooms
Position Summary:
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of the Quality Inn Downtown Victoria (QIV). Reporting directly to the Director of Hospitality, the GM ensures the hotel operates efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with brand standards and company goals. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong hospitality background, Sales, and a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations across all departments: front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, laundry, accounting, and sales & catering.
- Ensure all departments function cohesively and efficiently to deliver high-quality service.
- Conduct daily room inspections to maintain cleanliness and compliance with Choice Hotels' "Green Status" standards.
Revenue & Financial Management
- Manage all revenue streams including rooms, meeting space, sundry income, and lease income.
- Develop and implement rate strategies to maximize room revenue.
- Collaborate with the hotel accountant to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting using QuickBooks.
- Create and manage operating and capital budgets; monitor expenditures and provide financial forecasts.
- Control purchases and inventory to maintain cost efficiency within budget parameters.
Sales & Marketing
- Drive business growth through proactive sales strategies and market analysis.
- Represent the hotel in tourism and hospitality associations and maintain strong community involvement.
- Attend Choice Hotels and other industry meetings as required.
Guest Experience
- Ensure prompt and friendly responses to guest requests and feedback.
- Monitor and respond to online reviews (TripAdvisor, Google, Medallia) within one business day.
- Maintain high guest satisfaction scores and continuously improve the guest experience.
Human Resources & Team Development
- Train, support, and coach staff to foster a motivated and productive team.
- Manage employee relations, retention, and development in compliance with Local 40 Union Agreement.
- Collaborate with the HR Manager to ensure compliance with employment regulations and union rules.
- Accurately enter timecards for payroll department to process.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to Choice Hotels brand standards and all legislative requirements.
- Partisipate in the Hotel Health & Safety Committee and maintain meeting documentation.
- Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program to ensure safety and asset protection.
Facilities & Renovations
- Oversee renovations and contractor work, ensuring minimal guest disruption and cost-effective execution.
Reporting & Communication
- Submit weekly/monthly reports and maintain regular communication with the Director of Hospitality.
- Liaise with lease tenants regarding rent and CAM payments.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Company or Immediate Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in hotel management, preferably within branded properties.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent financial and analytical abilities.
- Knowledge of hospitality software including QuickBooks.
- Familiarity with Choice Hotels' brand standards is an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
