Responsibilities

  • Perform professional grooming services including bathing, brushing, trimming, clipping, and styling according to breed standards or owner preferences.
  • Assess each dog's coat condition, skin health, and temperament to tailor grooming techniques appropriately.
  • Handle dogs safely using proper animal restraint techniques to ensure both pet and groomer safety during procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary grooming area by regularly disinfecting tools, tubs, and workspaces.
  • Provide gentle pet handling and comfort to reduce stress during grooming sessions, ensuring a positive experience for every dog.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners to understand their grooming requests, provide advice on pet care, and discuss any health concerns observed during grooming.
  • Assist with pet training or behavioral guidance as needed to promote good handling practices.
  • Keep detailed records of each dog's grooming history, special needs, or allergies for future reference.
  • Support other team members with animal handling tasks such as pet sitting or kennel duties when required.
  • Contribute to a team environment by sharing knowledge on pet care, veterinary needs, or animal handling techniques.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in pet grooming with a strong understanding of breed-specific cuts and styling techniques.
  • Knowledge of animal handling, restraint methods, and pet care best practices.
  • Experience working with veterinary professionals or understanding veterinary terminology is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with dog training principles and behavioral management techniques.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (dogs or equipment) safely and comfortably as part of daily duties.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners.
  • Previous kennel experience or pet sitting background is a plus.
  • Strong animal handling skills gained through veterinary technician or assistant roles are advantageous.
  • Passion for animal welfare combined with a professional attitude and attention to detail.
