Engineering Manager

This role is responsible for leading and developing the engineering team, managing plant and product engineering projects, and ensuring that all technical solutions align with strategic business goals. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of hands-on technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities: Engineering Management:
- Oversee engineering projects related to production processes, equipment upgrades, and product innovation from concept to implementation.
- Collaborate with Production, Design, Maintenance, and Quality teams to identify and resolve technical challenges.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for engineering initiatives.
- Evaluate and select vendors, contractors, and suppliers for engineering-related services and equipment.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Set clear objectives, KPIs, and performance standards to ensure alignment with company priorities and operational goals.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to support career development.
- Promote cross-functional teamwork and knowledge sharing between engineering, production, and design teams.
- Champion a culture of safety, innovation, and excellence throughout the engineering department.
Process & Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze and optimize production workflows to improve throughput, reduce waste, and minimize downtime.
- Lead initiatives to adopt new technologies, automation tools, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Provide hands-on support and technical expertise in troubleshooting complex equipment or design issues.
- Implement root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring production problems.
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics related to process efficiency and product quality.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and contribute to long-term engineering and manufacturing strategies that support business growth and scalability.
- Participate in capital investment planning, including equipment selection, facility upgrades, and technology integration.
- Act as a liaison between senior leadership and the engineering team to ensure alignment of goals and priorities.
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact operations.
- Support sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency improvements within the plant.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7-10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of leading technical teams and managing cross-functional projects.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment optimization, and lean/continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in woodworking, cabinetry, furniture, or related industries is a strong asset.
- Proficient in CAD software, ERP systems, and project management tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
Preferred Certifications:
- P.Eng. (Professional Engineer) designation in British Columbia or eligibility to obtain.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) - SME.
- Health & Safety Certification (e.g., WHMIS, Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher).
