The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Senior Contaminated Sites Specialist to our Environment and Water Practice team based in Edmonton, Calgary, or Lethbridge, AB. This role combines technical leadership with project management and delivery. You will lead projects across Alberta and the North, provide technical oversight, and offer training and mentorship to our team of engineers and scientists throughout the province.

Your Role:

  • Technical Leadership
  • Lead and sign off on Phase ESAs and remedial investigations in accordance with CSA Z768/Z769, provincial regulations or CCME guidelines.
  • Design, manage and/or conduct environmental site assessment and remediation programs such as overseeing field sampling programs (borehole drilling, well installation).
  • Design and implement remediation and risk management strategies for a variety of sites across Alberta and the North .
  • Stay current on general trends in the technical field and market sector.
  • Review and deliver clear, concise and accurate technical reports, remedial action plans and regulatory submissions.
  • Project & Client Management
  • Manage projects according to the approved scope of work and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budget.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and regulators.
  • Team Development
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate staff to foster technical excellence and best practices.
  • Deliver top quality and winning technical proposals for environmental engineering projects.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in an environmental discipline or environmentally related engineering discipline.
  • Professional registration such as P.Eng., P.Geo., or P.Ag. in Alberta and ability to register in other Canadian provinces and territories.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant, hands-on technical experience, preferably in consulting.
  • The successful candidate must have experience with Contaminated Sites assessment and remediation in Alberta and also, preferably in the North.
  • Current and sound knowledge of AB and Federal environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Experience with a variety of sites and clients including municipalities and other levels of Government, industry, and upstream/downstream petroleum.
  • Experience mentoring and directing staff to conduct high quality technical work.
  • Leadership skills and experience and the desire to train, mentor and develop junior and intermediate staff within the team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build long-term, successful professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, problem solving, leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Several years of experience establishing and maintaining client relationships is required.
  • Contributing to identifying and securing new business opportunities and marketing activities.
  • Some travel will be required in this position.
  • Professional registration in other Canadian provinces and territories (NT, NU in particular) would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge/experience with Alberta Subsoil Salinity Tool Version 3.0 would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to obtain a Permit to Practice in AB would be considered an asset.
