Job Purpose

The Shift Supervisor, Facilities is responsible for coordinating facilities operations and maintenance for their assigned portfolio, which can include Casinos, Corporate offices, or Liquor Mart retail properties.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate/execute operations and maintenance of all facilities equipment assets, including heating, ventilation, cooling, electrical, mechanical, lighting, life safety systems, grounds and parking areas.
  • Monitor the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for service requests, work-orders, preventative maintenance, and inventory control, and assign appropriate priorities/timelines.
  • Maintain and update CMMS database, including preventative maintenance programs, review, and close work orders when complete.
  • Utilize CMMS reports for workload management, and utilize the system to increase operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor applicable facilities energy software programs to ensure optimum energy efficiency. e.g., BAS, CMMS, electrical power, etc.
  • Coordinate system shutdowns, work-arounds and integration with construction and renovation work managed by others.
  • Assist Senior Manager with administration and monitoring of all Facilities service and supply contracts.
  • Review all service reports and provide recommendations for future contract changes.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies, standards, procedures, specifications, and guidelines.
  • Establish and monitor tools, equipment, spare parts and consumable inventories. Reorder as required.
  • Ensure operational instructions/labels are in place or readily available to users.
  • Oversee the implementation, use, evaluation, and disposal of a wide variety of technical and non-technical products and equipment once no longer useful.
  • Respond to urgent phone calls and assign or complete service requests.
  • Sustain site specific facilities inventories such as tool, equipment and consumables within a 5S work environment.
  • Observe and evaluate staff work performance. Mentor and train staff as required.
  • Prepare and conduct employee performance appraisals in consultation with department Management.
  • Act as a communication conduit between staff and management.
  • Ensure all policies, compliance regulations and procedures are understood and adhered to by all department employees.
  • Participate in staff discipline/corrective action within scope of responsibility and established policies/related documentation.
  • Complete reports, paperwork, logs and correspondence as required.
  • Schedule staff, allocate staff resources to meet short term work fluctuations and schedule daily work assignments.
  • Carry out all duties and responsibilities of a supervisor of workers, as outlined under provincial safety and health legislation.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Respond to customer requests and follow up on outcomes.
  • Ensure Facilities staff responds appropriately and in a timely manner to internal customers.
  • Communicate system impairments/outages.
  • Arrange access into restricted areas for Facilities work.
  • Work collaboratively with other Facilities management to ensure consistency and standardization of department requirements.
  • Liaise with Project Manager(s) to integrate operations with project work to minimize patron and staff impacts, and to maintain asset protection.
  • Participate in preparing annual budgets and assist with monitoring financial performance to ensure expenditures fall within budgets.
  • Approve expenditure requests for the department within approval limits.
  • Identify cost savings and efficiencies to mitigate maintenance cost increases.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of department initiatives and strategies for cost savings, process improvements and best practice approaches.
  • Forecast and recommend necessary equipment replacements, additions or upgrades necessary.
  • Initiate Requests for Goods & Services, monitor staff purchases, and purchase products and services with purchasing card.
  • Respond to emergencies and take appropriate actions to minimize safety impacts, business interruption and revenue loss.
  • Maintain familiarity with assigned tasks in fire response or disaster management situations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Safety & Health Committees or representatives responding to Safety & Health issues and inquiries.
  • Assist in Safety and Health investigations and recommend solutions and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure Facilities staff maintain all life safety systems including preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades and impairment recovery efforts.
  • May require travel between Manitoba Liquor Marts locations.
  • Meet with Store Managers and District Sales Managers regarding service requests.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Primary Qualifications
  • A post-secondary education in a related discipline with an emphasis on Facility Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Building Owners Management Institute (BOMI) designation – Facilities Management Administrator (FMA), or 5th Class power engineer certificate, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years progressive supervisory/management experience in a facility management environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License.

These competencies are deemed important for the success of the position and organization.
Secondary Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of operations and maintenance manuals. Blueprint reading is an asset.
  • Training in human resource management and financial management is an asset.
  • Courses in Safety & Health and Sustainable Operations are an asset.
  • Facility Management experience in a liquor or gaming industry is an asset.
  • Bilingual (French/English) language skills.
