What is the opportunity?
The Manager, Product Insights & Competitive Research will be responsible for expanding the product insights ecosystem by actively gathering competitive and industry/market information, conducting analysis and contextualization of its impact on our products and influencing decision making for day-to-day activities as well as for strategic initiatives driven by Product & Pricing.
This role and its deliverables also have visibility from other key business areas across RBC Insurance including, but not limited to, Distribution, Digital, Strategy, Marketing and Operations.
What will you do?
- Deliver and maintain a current and accurate account of competitor products, features, pricing/reprices and related activities, along with providing analysis/commentary of the overall impact on RBC Insurance products (Individual, Group, Creditor and Travel)
- Own analytical storytelling of our market position and product competitiveness in adhoc outputs and standardized reports
- Produce and maintain insights and key messages for key Product and Distribution partners to drive sales and support new product ideas, decisions and business cases
- Contribute to the building and expansion of product-focused intelligence assets, databases and repositories that create efficiencies for stakeholders and the team
- Perform thorough, systematic analysis of broader key industry trends, through syndicated third-party reports and related market research, including, but not limited to, product innovation, customers perceptions/experiences and industry changes that initiate/guide strategic opportunities to differentiate from the competition
- Be the primary contact and subject matter expert that actively participates in stakeholder meetings to understand current initiatives, identify emerging needs and business challenges, and proactively recommends intelligence activities to anticipate business needs
What will you need to succeed?
Must-have
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in research/insights or business/strategy analysis capacity
- Demonstrated strength and consistency in solving problems and capable of driving insight to action
- Ability to create narratives and articulate findings with strong report writing and presentation skills; excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Strong customer focus and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadline constraints
- Strong business acumen, with a demonstrated natural curiosity
- Strong technical aptitude to organize data, use third party intelligence tools and MS Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Nice-to-have
- Experience or strong aptitude to rapidly develop a working understanding of the life insurance industry
- Knowledge of more than one of the following product categories: Individual Insurance, Group Benefits, Travel and/or Creditor Insurance
