Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer mentors junior engineers. Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Leads small to medium scale electrical projects and the roll out of electrical engineering initiatives. Assists with development and implementation of electrical engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional data center operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on data center projects, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
Project Management

  • Leads and manages electrical engineering projects or other design and engineering initiatives
  • Provides guidance and project leadership in ensuring electrical engineering projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations

System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning)

  • Expert operating knowledge of critical facilities electrical engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues (i.e., understands the historical background of how equipment settings were standardized and recommend changes to settings when an issue occurs which requires a setting to be changed, consider impacts of changes on regional level while working with the global team)
  • Utilizes safe working practices at an expert level (e.g. can apply procedure for lockout/tag out)
  • Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others
  • Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines
  • Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to resolve power and/or cooling limitations and optimize resource utilization

Leadership and Communications (including Vendor Mgmt.)

  • Contributes to mentoring junior team members
  • Directs all internal and external project team members
  • Directs external vendors per project or initiative such as general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
  • Expert level communication to include cross functional SOP development and relevant technical writing
  • Interactions are primarily to exchange information between departments within the organization
  • Includes executive level communications in standardized templates

Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence

  • Contributes to creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures
  • Participates in review of policy and procedure documents
  • Develops policy documents with the input of others
  • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summits and data center physicals

Problem Solving

  • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve (i.e., works with local ops team to perform root cause analysis for difficult incidents, proposes solutions to issues and produces lessons learned for future reference)
  • Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems
  • Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments

Qualifications

  • Typically 7+ years in electrical system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with emphasis on data center or mission critical project delivery
  • SME in electrical system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with emphasis on datacenter or mission critical project delivery
  • Experience developing and managing projects with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated efficiency and data modeling experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 118, ,000 USD / Annual

Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 112, ,000 CAD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.
The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs.
Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
