Cook – MARU Japanese Bistro (Full-time/Part-time)

At MARU, we're a cozy Japanese bistro in the heart of Leslieville, serving dishes made from scratch. We're looking for a cook who is passionate about food, teamwork, and creating a welcoming dining experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and plate menu items with care and consistency
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and follow health & safety standards
  • Assist with prep and daily mise en place
  • Monitor food quality and temperatures, and communicate with the team
  • Work closely with chefs, servers, and bar staff to create a smooth service
  • Other duties as needed in a small, collaborative kitchen

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of kitchen experience (restaurant experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of cooking methods and kitchen equipment
  • Interest in Japanese cuisine (experience an asset, but training provided)
  • Strong sense of teamwork, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Passion for culinary arts and guest experience
  • Bringing your own knives is recommended (we encourage cooks to use tools they are comfortable with)
