Job Profile
Reporting to the Police Psychologist, the Mental Health Clinician will provide clinical mental health services to employees of the Winnipeg Police Service through counselling and therapy sessions. This position works within a collaborative Behavourial Health Unit to support the ongoing mental health of Winnipeg Police Service employees.

The Mental Health Clinician supports the implementation of the Service's mental health strategies and develops partnerships with internal stakeholders to expand and deliver mental health programming and education.

As a Mental Health Clinician You Will

  • Provide clinical mental health services directly to both civilian and sworn personnel
  • Organize and provide education and training sessions for supervisors and members on a variety of mental health and wellness topics
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Education And Qualifications Include

  • Master's Degree in social work, counselling, or other relevant mental health discipline from an accredited institution. Must include supervised clinical experience (at least 6 months full time placement or practicum required).
  • Additional training in mental health education/prevention is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years post-graduate clinical mental health experience.
  • Previous experience providing clinical care to first responders is an asset.
  • Previous experience providing therapy to couples, families, and groups is an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and wellness programs.
  • Proficient in assessing and delivering targeted interventions for individuals experiencing psychological concerns such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders, including appropriate referrals to community resources when necessary.
  • Trained in evidence-based therapeutic modalities and skilled in applying these approaches to meet client needs.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives, ensuring alignment of mental health initiatives with broader organizational priorities
  • Demonstrated basic level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects in a high-pressure environment.
  • Highly self-motivated and independent, capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with members, supervisors, and senior management to resolve complex challenges.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information, adhering to professional and ethical standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including report writing and presentations.
  • Adaptable and resilient, capable of thriving in dynamic, reactive environments and adjusting quickly to changing priorities
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological, and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment

Minimum Requirements

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • No involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
  • No criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted

Conditions Of Employment

  • Ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check and maintain clearance.
  • Must be in possession or eligible to obtain a valid license and/or registration with regulatory body to practice in Manitoba prior to employment, if applicable.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5.0 Driver's License.
  • Flexibility in working hours to achieve objectives.
  • Must be willing to carry a work phone and be accessible while off-duty.
  • Availability to travel for professional development opportunities.
