Duties and Responsibilities

Route Planning & Dispatch Support

  • Check in drivers at the start of shift and provide devices, paperwork, and route instructions.
  • Plan and optimize local P&D routes for Toronto and Montreal using the TMS systems (TruckMate/Appian).
  • Support Western Canada route planning using PCSTrac as required.
  • Create daily trips in the system and ensure route details are accurate and complete.
  • Prioritize and assign pickups to drivers to ensure maximum efficiency and meet service commitments.
  • Ensure drivers are aware of appointment deliveries, C.O.D.s, cash collects, and any unusual delivery/pickup requirements.
  • Update TMS systems in real time with all truck and trailer statuses.
  • Perform route leveling to maintain balanced workloads across drivers and regions.
  • Conduct driver checkout and assist drivers in resolving conflicts in a professional manner.

Operational Coordination

  • Monitor on-time delivery performance and support the P&D team in achieving KPI targets.
  • Identify and escalate driver issues to the Driver Trainer, Dispatch Supervisor, or Driver Manager when they impact operations.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service to plan and arrange pickups, deliveries, and special service requests.
  • Communicate with vendors and drivers to arrange service calls as needed.
  • Work closely with the garage/maintenance team to ensure equipment availability and hold units as required for repairs.
  • Bring appointment freight and priority shipments to the attention of the AM Operations Supervisor and ensure proper loading for on-time delivery.
  • Monitor and track all equipment (trucks and trailers) as assigned or moved.
  • Follow up with Linehaul as needed to support cross-dock and departure timelines.

Route Knowledge & Issue Resolution

  • Maintain familiarity with all Toronto and Montreal P&D routes, including common problem areas.
  • Investigate route or delivery issues and resolve them promptly to minimize operational disruption.
  • Support staffing and resource planning needs and advise the Dispatch Supervisor of any changes required to meet operational demands.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in route planning, dispatch, or a similar logistics role.
  • Availability to support early-morning or time-sensitive routing tasks.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, TruckMate/Appian, and other routing or TMS applications.
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred for effective coordination with Montreal operations.
