JOB SUMMARY:
The Pro Shop Manager at Coyote Rock Golf is responsible for overseeing daily pro shop operations, staff supervision, customer service standards, merchandising, and financial accountability. This role provides leadership to front-line staff while ensuring exceptional guest experiences, operational efficiency, and compliance with company policies and applicable legislation. The Pro Shop Manager serves as a culture leader, supporting the values of Sugar Cane Development Corporation (SCDC) and the Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), while ensuring the safe and professional operation of the golf course's retail and customer service functions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee daily pro shop operations, including opening and closing procedures.
- Supervise, schedule, train, and support Pro Shop Associates.
- Ensure accurate handling and records of cash, POS transactions, and daily reconciliations.
- Manage tee sheets, bookings, tournaments, and guest inquiries.
- Oversee golf cart and rental club operations, ensuring safety and availability.
- Address customer concerns professionally and resolve issues promptly.
- Enforce company policies related to conduct, safety, privacy, and cash handling.
- Conduct performance check-ins, probationary reviews, and end-of-season evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, ESA, PIPA, and internal policies.
- Coordinate with grounds crew, clubhouse, and leadership to ensure smooth course operations.
- Report weekly on sales, staffing, and issues to senior management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Post-secondary education in business, hospitality, or recreation considered an asset.
- Merchandising or inventory management certification (preferred).
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (required).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of customer service, retail experience, or golf operations.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) and scheduling software.
- Knowledge of golf industry and customer expectations.
- Prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge
- Retail operations, scheduling, and customer service best practices.
- Cash handling, reconciliation, and POS systems.
- Familiarity with Tee Sheet and retail software systems preferred.
- Basic understanding of golf operations and rules preferred (or willingness to learn).
- Awareness of BC employment, safety, and privacy requirements.
Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead by example, set clear expectations, and foster accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with staff, golfers, guests, contractors, and leadership.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and support employees through training, feedback, and performance management, including probationary and end-of-season reviews.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills, particularly when handling customer concerns, staff issues, safety matters, or confidential information.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical conduct, aligned with the values of Sugar Cane Development Corporation (SCDC) and the Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN).
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in high-volume, seasonal, or fast-paced environments.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments (grounds crew, clubhouse, management, finance) to support smooth daily operations.
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and culturally aware workplace that reflects community values and organizational standards.
- Reliability, punctuality, and consistency in attendance, conduct, and leadership presence.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind
- Work takes place in a recreational golf course environment, including both outdoor grounds and limited indoor areas
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and physical activity throughout the shift
- Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs may be required
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts based on seasonal and operational needs
- Occasional extended hours or special assignments may be required during tournaments, events, or peak operational periods
