Cultural Support Navigator

The Cultural Support Navigator (CSN) will provide resources for clients who have been victimized and subjected to violence and are involved in human trafficking. The CSN will act as a liaison and case manage victims and provide access to resources and support for clients/ community members.
The incumbent should have an interest in the welfare of others and a desire to help.
Key Accountabilities
- Review client background information, interview clients, complete intakes and needs assessments and case manage clients (women) who have been subjected to violence and human trafficking.
- Facilitate and implement various activities and workshops for community members
- Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems they may have
- Provide crisis intervention and assist clients in obtaining emergency services
- Communicate the MNFCs-Violence Prevention and Human Trafficking program's vision, mission and values to promote and build awareness among the broader communities
- Plan, implement and evaluate special projects and programs related to victim services in support of women who are victimized
- Stay up to date on community needs and trends with victim services to ensure that you are providing the most up to date resources for clients/ community members
- Collaborate with other organizations (provincial, federal, municipal departments), victim support programs to ensure timely access to resources and services for clients/ community members
- Develop ongoing communication and multi-media marketing strategies to promote awareness as well as develop written materials (brochures)
- Research and seek out innovative ideas that attributes to victim services for Indigenous women.
- Develop and maintain a tool kit for resources
- Work with clients/ community members to ensure they continue to develop healthy life skills and actively engage with clients to ensure they have the support needed to overcome challenges which arise due to trauma related experiences.
- Establish relationships with and provide appropriate culturally responsive interventions for clients/ community members
- Adhere to all policies governing the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Required for the Position:
- Diploma/ certification in Social Services or University degree in Social Work, child and youth care, psychology or other social science/ health related discipline
- Three years community service work related experience, or a combination of work experience and education may be considered
- Must have Non-violence Crisis Intervention and Prevention certification
- Knowledgeable in Human Trafficking and Violence against women
- Strong leadership skills, reasoning and decision-making skills
- Must have excellent communication skills (verbal/ written)
- Knowledge of Indigenous Culture and Traditions
- Experience working with community organizations, shelter and safe houses
- Must be flexible and able to work some weekends and evenings
- Some travel may be required
- Must have a valid driver's license, reliable car and valid insurance
- Experience working with the Urban Indigenous Community considered an asset
- Must provide a vulnerable sector check
