Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Contract Paralegal with proven experience in Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) and Small Claims Court matters to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have strong advocacy skills, the ability to draft and file legal documents, and experience representing clients in tribunal and court proceedings.

This position requires a proactive and organized individual who can effectively manage multiple cases, conduct legal research, and provide litigation support while maintaining high standards of accuracy, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Duties

  • Represent clients at Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) hearings and Small Claims Court proceedings.
  • Prepare and file LTB applications (L1, L2, T2, T6) and Small Claims Court documents (Plaintiff's Claims, Defences, Motions).
  • Draft and review legal correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, and settlement agreements.
  • Conduct legal research on landlord-tenant disputes, civil claims, and procedural rules.
  • Advise clients on Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) compliance and Small Claims Court procedures.
  • Negotiate settlements and resolve disputes between landlords, tenants, and opposing parties.
  • Maintain case files, track deadlines, and update clients on case progress.
  • Communicate with clients, tribunal adjudicators, and opposing parties professionally.
  • Ensure all filings comply with LTB and Small Claims Court rules and deadlines.
  • Stay up to date on legal developments in landlord-tenant and civil litigation matters.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active P1 Paralegal License (LSO) in good standing
  • Minimum 1 + years experience with LTB, Small Claims Court, and Employment Law
  • Proven track record of hearings, trials, and successful case outcomes
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong deadline management and organizational skills
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience across all three practice areas
  • High-volume case management experience
  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin, English/French, or other languages)
  • Familiarity with Tribunals Ontario e-filing system
  • Experience working as an independent contractor or running own practice

Compensation

$1,200 per case + reimbursement for start.
