Adecco is currently hiring an experienced, hands on Payroll Manager to join our client's finance team for a maternity leave of approximately 4-5 months. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing for the company, ensuring that employees are paid accurately and on time. The role requires strong knowledge of payroll systems, compliance with labor laws, and the ability to lead a team. The Payroll Manager will collaborate with HR and Finance departments while mentoring/managing a team of 3 to ensure accurate records and timely payroll delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage bi-weekly payroll of over 1200 employees and contractors
  • Supervise the payroll team in processing payroll for full-time and part-time employees, including both unionized and non-unionized staff, with a focus on manual transactions, calculations, and adjustments.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and deductions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes.
  • Ensure compliance with Government regulations and Company-specific policies regarding payroll processing.
  • Ensure payroll activity is in compliance with external regulating bodies such as Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).
  • Mentor and manage payroll staff to increase accuracy, efficiency, and productivity within the team.
  • Support the budgeting and reporting functions related to salary and benefits.
  • Note that this is a hands-on payroll position with leadership responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a three-year Diploma/Degree in Accounting or Business Administration along with specialized training in payroll standards (PCP and/or PLP with National payroll institute)
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience, including managerial/leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in managing a large and complex payroll within a unionized environment.
  • Advanced and thorough knowledge and expertise with Peoplesoft.
  • Expertise in advanced Excel skills, including data analysis and complex reporting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when processing payroll and handling payroll-related issues.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Proven leadership abilities in decision-making and analytical skills, particularly in a fast-paced work environment, with the ability to make rational judgments in relation to employee pay and payroll discrepancies.
  • A strong decision-maker with planning, analytical, and negotiation experience, ensuring effective solutions for payroll-related matters.

This primarily remote working position will require you to be onsite in Peterborough, ON or Lindsay, ON twice each month on a Wednesday so you must be able to travel to accommodate this request.
