The successful candidate will work with the CPAWS team on planning and implementing projects and campaigns related to parks and public lands in Southern Alberta. The Conservation Campaign Specialist will be part of the Conservation Policy department and report to the Executive Director (ED), while working closely with all relevant staff both locally and nation-wide to strategically implement our conservation work.
This position offers an opportunity to apply and expand the candidate's skills and knowledge related to advancing public understanding and engagement in conservation policy issues and opportunities, as guided by our strategic plan. These skills would support career development in the fields of environmental science, ecology, geography, land-use, political science, and/or public policy.

What You'll Do

  • Drive Conservation Campaigns (50%) Use your knowledge of the landscape and communities in southern Alberta to lead large-scale initiatives to protect Alberta's public lands and waters. From breaking down complex science and policy analysis to campaign planning, you'll research, write, and represent CPAWS in consultations and meetings with government, partners and interest groups. You'll work closely with Indigenous communities, grassroots groups, and partners to create lasting change.
  • Engage & Inspire (30%) Bring conservation stories to life You'll collaborate with our communications staff to craft compelling content, speak to the public, and work with media to raise awareness. Your voice will help shape how Albertans connect with nature and engage in conservation advocacy.
  • Support Our Mission (20%) Contribute to fundraising efforts through grant writing and donor engagement. Participate in team planning and project management, professional development, and help advance diversity, equity, and reconciliation in all aspects of our work.

Position Requirements

  • Education and Professional Certification Post-secondary degree in environmental science, ecology, geography, political science, communications, or a related field and/or have a minimum of 5 years' work experience in environmental science, ecology, geography, land-use, and/or influencing public policy.

  • Experience & Job-Related Skills

  • Strong understanding of conservation in Alberta and motivation to learn about new and emerging issues and approaches.

  • Ability to strategically engage all levels of government in CPAWS conservation work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present and convey complex science and policy concepts clearly and coherently.
  • Experience in project management and budget tracking.
  • Skilled in engagement with the public and stakeholders.
  • Experience in campaign planning and execution is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities an asset.

  • Behavioural Competencies

Position Details

  • Start Date: January 2026
  • Full time
  • 37.5 hours per week, some travel, evening and weekend work may be required 1-2 times a month.
  • Salary: $62,000-$70,000 depending on experience.
