Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Journeyman HVAC-R Technician with a valid Class B Gas Certificate to join our team in Nanaimo, BC. This role involves the installation, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in both commercial and residential settings.

The ideal candidate is Red Seal certified in HVAC-R, holds a Class B Gas ticket, and has experience working independently and efficiently in the field. You will play a key role in delivering quality service, mentoring apprentices, and ensuring client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

· Install, service, and repair HVAC-R systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, rooftop units, boilers, chillers, walk-in coolers/freezers, and more.

· Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC-R and gas appliances.

· Install and maintain gas piping systems, regulators, and controls.

· Conduct combustion analysis and testing for gas appliances.

· Ensure all work is done in compliance with the BC Gas Safety Regulation, the BC Building Code, and WorkSafeBC regulations.

· Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

· Complete service reports and maintain documentation for regulatory compliance.

· Communicate with clients to explain issues and recommend solutions.

· Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections.

· Participate in on-call rotations and emergency repairs when required.

· Certifications Required:

· Red Seal Journeyman Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (HVAC-R).

· Class B Gasfitter Certificate of Qualification (issued by Technical Safety BC).

Skills and Qualifications

· Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and gas systems.

· Familiarity with HVAC-R tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety procedures.

· Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and building plans.

· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

· Good communication and customer service skills.

· Physically fit and capable of working in varied environments (e.g., rooftops, confined spaces, outdoors).

· Valid BC Driver's License (Class 5 or equivalent) and clean driving record.

· Work Environment:

· Residential homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and construction sites.

· Work may be indoors or outdoors, in various weather conditions.

· Often requires working at heights, in cramped spaces, and handling heavy equipment.

· Familiar with all regulatory bodies such as Technical Safety BC (TSBC) – for gas certification and safety compliance, Industry Training Authority (SkilledTradesBC) – oversees Red Seal certification and apprenticeship and, WorkSafeBC – workplace safety standards.

Compensation

· Salary Range: $ varies based on industry and experience).

· Overtime pay according to BC Employment Standards.

· Company vehicle (or ride with journeyperson), and uniforms provided.
