R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) and Neegan Burnside Ltd. (Neegan) are expanding our team in conjunction with the recent opening of the Thunder Bay office, and we're seeking a Manager of Environmental Services to lead the regional environmental practice and business in the North and West Region.

The role will have a diverse range of responsibilities. Working and aligning with other technical and management leaders across the organization, you will demonstrate technical competence, while mentoring and developing your team. You will have responsibility for quality management, as well as the growth and development of clients in the Region.

At Burnside, the difference is our people and we're passionate about shaping sustainable communities through responsible and innovative environmental solutions. We foster a welcoming and collaborative culture where you'll thrive in a connected environment, driven by strong company values and practices, that champions mentorship and career development supported by colleagues across the organization.

What You'll Do

As the Manager of Environmental Services, you'll play a key leadership role in shaping the growth, performance, and technical excellence of our regional operations. You'll guide teams, strengthen client relationships, and ensure our environmental projects deliver measurable results — from concept through compliance.

What You'll Accomplish

Lead Technical Excellence

  • Act as the regional technical lead in one or more of Burnside's core environmental service areas, such as:
  • Air & Noise Quality
  • Hydrogeology
  • Environmental Site Assessments
  • Solid Waste Management
  • Ecology & Permitting
  • Environmental Planning & Assessment
  • Regulatory Compliance and Approvals.
  • Leverage your technical expertise to lead and review high-quality deliverables that meet client objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and offices to ensure technical quality, innovation, and efficiency on every project.
  • Where outside your technical scope, partner with Burnside's broader Environmental team to ensure seamless delivery and client satisfaction.

Drive Regional Growth

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, using your knowledge of the local market to expand our environmental presence in the region.
  • Build lasting client relationships through proactive communication, trusted advice, and reliable project delivery.
  • Lead proposal development efforts — crafting winning strategies and partnering with our Proposal Team to secure key projects.
  • Represent Burnside at industry events, technical conferences, and associations to strengthen our visibility and partnerships.

Inspire and Develop Teams

  • Mentor, coach, and support staff — fostering technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear expectations and uphold high standards of quality, accountability, and performance.
  • Champion knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional growth within the Thunder Bay office, across the region, and company-wide.
  • Provide quality review and guidance on reports and deliverables prepared by environmental staff.

Deliver Projects that Make a Difference

  • Manage key client relationships and lead strategic projects from concept through completion.
  • Guide project teams through scoping, design, reporting, approvals, and construction coordination.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to Burnside's high QA/QC standards.
  • Anticipate challenges, remove roadblocks, and maintain clear communication with clients and regulators.

What Success Looks Like

  • You strengthen Burnside's reputation as a trusted environmental partner in the region.
  • Your projects consistently meet schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • You expand client relationships and open new opportunities for the business.
  • You build a motivated, capable team that takes pride in their work.
  • You actively contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the Thunder Bay office and the broader Burnside Environmental team.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Biology, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Municipal Class EA process is an asset.
  • Knowledge of environmental stewardship and social due diligence is an asset.
  • Exceptional communications skills with staff, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • An ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and integrated team environment.

This is your chance to kickstart your career by working on meaningful projects that impact communities. At Burnside, we prioritize mentorship and foster an environment where you can learn, grow, and thrive. You'll join a team that values innovation, teamwork, and a passion for the environment.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Contributing to the growth and development of a new office in Thunder Bay.
  • Meaningful, community-focused projects across the North and West Region.
  • Supportive environment where collaboration and knowledge-sharing are encouraged.
  • Opportunities to work on a variety of project types that expand your skills and experience.
  • Flexibility to apply both your expertise and technical knowledge in a balanced role.
