Job Type: Part time
Salary: $2,500.00 monthly + benefits after 3 months
Position Overview:
This half-time position, under the direction of the Weaving Wîcihitowin for Learning Coordinator, supports academic success for urban and rural Indigenous students by providing direct academic supports, cultural and community connective . The role involves assisting with planning, preparation, and facilitation of activities that foster cultural connection, learning, and belonging through hands-on teachings and creative expression. The role also includes outreach, relationship-building, and logistical support to ensure programming runs smoothly and in alignment with the values of Weaving Wîcihitowin for Learning.
Key Responsibilties:
- Assist in the development of programs to enhance school and community visits to the Indigenous Heritage collection of artifacts and resources in the Cultural Room
- Assist in the organization of field trips and cultural camps
- Coordinate volunteers for programming and ensure they are given adequate instruction and preparation
- Encourage and support connection with Elders, ceremony, land-based practices and cultural community events
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation, data and reporting
- Participate in internal wellness practices, cultural learning opportunities and Miywasin community events
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and qualities for success in this role:
- Understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, histories and teachings
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with children, families, schools, and community partners
- Ability to maintain patience, empathy, and enthusiasm while working with school-aged children in diverse learning settings
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Qualifications:
- Child and Youth Care Diploma, Educational Assistant Certificate, or other related education; a combination of relevant experience and training will also be considered
- Deep understanding and knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories and perspectives, with demonstrated commitment to Indigenous rights and reconciliation
- Experience working with Indigenous children, youth, families, and communities in educational or cultural programming settings
- Standard First Aid – Level C CPR (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver's license, able to provide clean driving abstract and access to reliable vehicle
- Clear criminal record check (with consideration given to context and relevance) and clean child intervention record check required prior to employment commencing
