JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for detailed oriented, focused and efficient bakers to join our team. The position requires relevant baking experience, including working with commercial baking equipment, being able to correctly follow recipes on your own within a set time frame. As a baker, you will be working in a small space on your own in the early mornings and then alongside other bakers, baristas, and front-of-house staff. It is important that you are able to maintain excellent levels of quality and cleanliness. Attention to detail is a big part of this job, it will be necessary to correctly prep and bake multiple recipes in one shift. Cleanliness is also important, and when recipes are completed, it will be necessary to wipe down appliances, tidy the work station areas, and always maintain a clean environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 1 year of proven experience preparing and baking recipes.
• Must be okay cooking with animal products (eggs, butter, meat in sandwich ingredients).
• Ability to create multiple recipes daily while maintaining the highest quality standards is required.
• Attention to detail and the ability to stay focused while maintaining a positive attitude in a high-paced, busy environment is a must.
• Basic math skills, including fractions is essential
• Ability to efficiently follow instructions on your own and maintain a high level of professionalism when engaging with customers and other staff.
• An outgoing, mature, friendly and respectful attitude towards customers and other staff is required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English or native speaker.
• Ability to commute to Kitsilano for work and start at 6 AM or earlier if needed is a must.

What you'll work on:

• Prepare and bake a variety of sweet and savoury baked goods and breads
• Fill out and maintain prep and bake logs
• Follow an extensive daily production list
• Keep fridge and pantry organized and clean
• Explain ingredients to customers when asked
• Accept and store deliveries
• Refill pastry cases carefully and keep them clean
• Wash and put away any dishes as needed throughout the day
• Maintain a clean and tidy workspace, washing hands frequently
• Monitor inventory and supply levels
• Note items that are low in stock
• Wash and put away dishes as you work
• Ability to lift 20 kg
• Sweep and mop floors
• Clean sinks, countertops, windows and appliances (fridges, ovens, mixers, etc)
• Clean bathroom, windows and other cleaning tasks
• Sort out and take out recycling, take out garbage and compost
• Deep cleaning shifts may be scheduled on occasion

DETAILS

Monday & Thursday from 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM or 1 PM daily

Base wage is from $18/hr with a reliable $2/hr or more from pooled gratuities. Compensation is negotiable up to $19/hr depending on the level of experience and expertise you bring to the role.

We offer small raises throughout the year based on outstanding job performance and consistent contribution to the team.
