Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly versatile Shop Mechanic to join our team as we enter a new chapter of growth.

As The Mechanic at Alberta Sweeprite, you'll also assume the role of Equipment Foreman and play a crucial role in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of light duty trucks (such as Ford F450/550), single axle tilt trailers and small support equipment such as Tennant riding sweepers (S30)/scrubbers (T20), in addition to running all aspects of the maintenance cycle from repairs and preventative maintenance to parts order/inventory and COR accreditation records.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
  • General duty body work such as bumper, door, seat replacement.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues efficiently for a variety of different vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle/equipment inspections and provide accurate estimates and timelines for repairs along with superior record keeping.
  • Keep the mechanic bay and tool crib organized and maintain a clean and safe work area.

Qualifications:

  • We work only on our own internal equipment so formal trades training or tickets are not required for this position, however at least 5 years of experience working as a mechanic, apprentice or equipment maintenance assistant OR a demonstratable high level of mechanical inclination combined with personal experience or any combination thereof.
  • General understanding of of diesel and both 2 and 4 stroke gasoline engines carbureted and fuel injected.
  • Able to perform basic automotive welding using either MIG or ARC.
  • Experienced in the general operation of vehicle hoists, forklifts and skid steers.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing various vehicle/equipment systems without the reliance on computer diagnostics.
  • Strong attention to maintenance details and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently by acting as the company's Equipment Foreman while still performing collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Valid and clean driver's license over the age of 25 for insurance purposes, along with reliable transportation to our Edmonton facility on 66 St/Yellowhead Trail.
  • Some on call evenings and weekends may be required depending on equipment operational state or field failures.
  • Ideally, are able to travel when required for specialized training in/out of Canada or for equipment maintenance purposes when operations are conducted outside of Edmonton.
