DRM377H1 S Studio Topics: Vocal Presence in Performance

Course Description: A practice-based exploration of voice in relation to performance. Through an exploration of the connections between breath, voice, impulse, emotion, character and text, students learn to use their voice in informed and efficient ways in practice, performance and other contexts to develop confidence and a wide expressive range.

Estimated course enrollment: 22 students

Estimated TA support: 1 TA @ approx. 86 hours

Schedule: Thursdays 10am - 1pm

Sessional dates: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026

Sessional Lecturer I $9,820.70 Sessional Lecturer I Long Term $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II $10,510.04 Sessional Lecturer II Long Term $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III $10,760.28 Sessional Lecturer III Long Term $11,030.36

Minimum Qualifications: Experience teaching voice/acting at a recognized theatre school or university; professional acting/theatre experience.

Preferred Qualifications: MFA in Acting OR diploma in voice teaching/training from an accredited institution preferred.

Description of Duties:

  • Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum for the course

  • Plan and deliver lectures

  • Evaluate student performance

  • Design and invigilate assignments, tests and exams (if applicable)

  • Hold office hours and meet with students as they request

  • Manage course content and grades on Quercus, CIS and Emarks

  • Supervise and meet with teaching assistant, complete DDAH forms (distribution of duties and hours)

  • Handle other pedagogical and administrative tasks ordinarily associated with an undergraduate course
