Role Summary
The LPN plays an autonomous and supportive coordination role in a collaborative care model providing holistic, resident focused care to meet the defined needs of individuals and families. The LPN develops therapeutic and professional relationships with Residents and members of the Health Care Team respectively for providing safe, effective, and ethical care to a defined group of residents with stable and predictable outcomes.
The LPN utilizes foundational nursing knowledge, evidence, critical thinking, and judgment to provide safe, competent, compassionate, ethical nursing care on both an independent and collaborative basis respecting the LPN scope of practice.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of LPN program
- Registered and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses
- Have current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Dementia Understanding the Journey Course
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in long term care setting would be an asset but not required
- Excellent communication skills demonstrating active listening and providing clear, accurate, concise, and relevant information to residents, their families, team members, and departmental managers.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Background Check
Performance Requirements
- Demonstrates professionalism and accountability in all interactions with residents and staff, while seeking opportunities to develop his/her abilities.
- Must exhibit leadership qualities and work with minimal supervision.
- Required to perform all tours of duty related to theory of practical nursing: Competent Practice, Excellence in Leadership, Safety, Professional Practice and Work/Life Relationships.
- Identify, promote, and implement a safe working environment by identifying and solving possible risk concerns for residents and colleagues.
- Must be a team player, collaborating with other members of the Resident Care team through sharing of knowledge and resources.
- Organized and able to set priorities in a constantly changing environment.
- Evaluates, achieves, and maintains own professional development needs and competencies while seeking appropriate learning opportunities.
- Fosters an environment that respects and embraces diversity while recognizing individuality.
- Participates actively in meetings, education seminars, workshops while carrying out assigned responsibilities.
- Good physical and mental health as demonstrated by a good attendance record.
